Riley is home!!!!2

after several hours of shopping we found memory foam beds, water proof bed covers and a really soft comfy blanket. The soft blanket is to help him regulate  his temperature post operative. We bought 2 memory foam beds – one for his crate and one for the living room. When we got to the office the ladies brought him around the corner and let him down to walk to us. He was wagging his tail and came straight to us. They were impressed by the way he has already learning to have his back leg in the middle to balance himself. Once home he wanted to eat so we are introducing his food slowly so that he doesn’t get sick. He wants his chewy toys lol. I think that we are going to do just fine with our tripawd. Just have to think a little more cautiously about him walking.

He had a dose of pain meds and antibiotics this morning so we start meds tomorrow.

So thankful to our wonderful vet and his staff for taking good care of our baby and the comments before we came home.

frustration and Riley isn’t even home2

You would think that bringing home a tripawd is no big deal but there is so much to do before getting him home. Finding a bed that will not cause sores should be easy (and it is if you buy online but the shipping dates are a week away) but we only have hours before picking him up. We are having to think outside the box- baby bed pads that control if he pees, memory foam pillows. all of this instead of waiting for a real bed and pad to come in the mail. we will order his new harness online and wait for that and we will try to  buy him a raised bowl locally. Holy cow…we only have an hour and a half before we get him!!!!!!!!!!11

Drive to vetComments Off on Drive to vet

today Riley went to the vet. after sedation and xrays it was determined that Riley had fracture his right hind leg above and below his knee as well as twisting his knee. The only options were expensive surgery that might or might not work and probable pain with arthritis for the rest of his life or amputation. After much thought and prayer, we opted for amputation. On Wednesday, Jan 8, 2014, Riley became a tripawd. We pick him up this afternoon to begin his life as a tripawd. there is so much to do in the few hours we have before bringing him home. orthotic bed, water proof bed cover, harness for lifting, heating pad to help maintain body temps, elevated dog bowls…
